Auto
Parts by Murray's
Background History of Murray's Auto Parts
Murray's Auto Parts was founded by Al and Murray
Pitt in 1972. It was started as a simple auto
parts store in Detroit, Michigan and later great to
112 popular locations across the upper Midwest.
In fact, Murray's was the largest auto parts
distributor in the Midwest before being purchased by
CSK. In 2008, O'Reilly's purchased CSK,
including Murray's Auto Parts, making O'Reilly the
3rd largest auto parts chain in the nation, behind
AutoZone and Advance Auto.
Before being purchased,
Murray's Auto Parts
consistently maintained over 100 stores and exceeded
two hundred and thirty five million dollars in their
final year before the acquisition by CSK. CSK
continued to grow and acquire additional auto parts
retailers, opting to keep the name of the stores,
particularly for the recognition and reputation of
quality in the store's original locations.
This is particularly true for
Murray's Auto Parts
stores which had and have, a reputation for quality
and customer satisfaction to this day.
Such mergers are becoming more necessary with the
competition of internet resellers. With good
reason; internet auto parts resellers are able to
provide cut rate deals, free shipping, and in most
cases, increased convenience.
To date, these acquisitions have permitted Murrays
Auto Parts to continue operating, keeping their name
and high standards while still being able to compete
within a growing market. As for the future of
Murray's, one cannot tell, but it is hopeful that
their high standards will keep them around for a
long time.
